Literacy assessments are administered three times per year by classroom teachers and literacy specialists to determine eligibility for support. Students are selected based on the benchmark assessment scores as well as recommendation from classroom teachers. Parents are notified before literacy support begins. Instruction:
Literacy support groups takes place in the general education classroom. This support is in addition to tier I classroom instruction provided by the classroom teacher and may include work in the following areas:
Phonemic Awareness
Phonics including Fundations
Fluency
Comprehension
Vocabulary
Writing
Progress Reports:
Student progress will be communicated to parents along with the classroom teacher report card three times per year (kindergarten progress will only be documented per year in June).
Support for Staff:
Literacy specialists work with classroom teachers each cycle to plan instruction for students being seen in groups as well as provide support for classroom teachers. Support may include:
Collaboration with teachers of students receiving literacy support
Analyzing literacy assessments data to plan for instruction
Co-planning and modeling of whole class lessons
Developing SMART goals for students and tracking student progress
